Idea #59 - Why Do So Many Villains Drink Milk?
“When you see my movies, there might be one drink or one piece of food that the audience fixates on and the movie actually makes them hungry for that. I defy anyone to not want strudel when you see Inglourious Basterds” -Quentin Tarantino
Today we watched Why Do So Many Villains Drink Milk? and learned how some filmmakers use food as subtle but powerful tools to give insight into characters and to propel the story in a certain direction.
From the origin of how oranges were first used to serve the purpose of a harbinger to a character’s doomsday (in The Godfather) to Hans Landa drinking the milk right under the roof of the farmer’s house to establish power and authority; from Tony Monero, a simple man from a poor family continuing to stay true to himself by sticking to coffee instead of trying to fit in to the upper class, to Tony Montana, a man of poor upbringing, eating the slice of lemon used to clean hands after meals - we found all these details hidden in the food alone!
But of course, the ultimate question remains - does a psychopath put milk or cereal first?
