Idea #49 - Right Here Right Now by Anand Gandhi

Today we watched Right Here Right Now, (part 1 and part 2), a classic masterpiece directed and written by filmmaker Anand Gandhi all the way back in 2003.

This short film spans in its entirety a mere 29 minutes - while covering 12 locations, 19 characters, each with their own arc, 8 languages, 2 shots - all shot in a single cut! This genius of a short film focuses on the karmic cycle, conveying to the audience in the rawest of performances how emotions, rather than fading, simply pass on from one to another.

Right Here Right Now masterfully builds and maintains a thick plot throughout, compromising the details of neither the characters nor the theme. It narrates a crisp and impactful message on morality that indulges in humour as much as it does in the unfiltered reality of the cycle of karma.

From giving us Right Here Right Now 19 years ago to Tumbbad in the recent past, Anand Gandhi never fails to completely and utterly capture us in the trance of his art!
