Idea #42 - Eva Stories
"Monsters exist, but they are too few in number to be truly dangerous. More dangerous are the common men, the functionaries ready to believe and to act without asking questions." - Primo Levi, Italian chemist, Holocaust survivor
What would it be like to witness the Holocaust of 1940s Budapest through a young girl's documentation of the great tragedy on Instagram? Maya Kochavi brought this idea to life with the Eva Project.
The Eva Project recreated the life of Eva Kor - a victim of the Holocaust who maintained a journal to document the events - in the form of instagram stories, even going as far as posting adjacent to the dates in the actual journal.
To experience the Holocaust vicariously through social media documentation was an eye-opening experience for millions of people and the idea itself was unlike any other. This project was initiated as a means to preserve the integrity of the events that took place and to create an unadulterated memoir of the Holocaust for the people to not forget.
