Idea #121 - The Fight

Today we saw the video - La Lucha (The Struggle), directed by Justin Henning, featuring two time Olympic gold medalist, former Cuban boxer, Mario Kindelán Mesa.

Tracing back to 1962, Cuba, this short film documents the career of Mario Kidelán, under the reign of revolutionary leader, Fidel Castro, after professional sports (contributing to the profit of other wealthy nations) was banned in the country, followed by the subsequent alterations.

Consequently, Mario Kindelán was left conflicted. He had to make a morally right decision between his soaring career and his loyalty toward the Revolution.

The Struggle, with its brilliant cinematography and coherent sound design that does justice to the gravity of the matter, captures to the core the circumstances the Revolution put professional Cuban athletes in. Some saw it as a conviction and preservation of ideas, deciding to stay, while some understood it to be a purely political doctrinaire as a result of years of brainwashing, and left.

This video sheds light on the Revolution, beyond its global foothold, deeper into the lives of the common man.
