Idea #96 - Unconventional Advertising

The Super Bowl is the annual playoff championship game of the National Football League, and an event that gains a lot of traction in America. Brands require a huge marketing budget simply to purchase a 30 second or 60 second slot during this season, and thus go all out in their advertising gimmicks.

Today we saw one brand that undertook an unconventional approach towards this marketing mania. CoinBase, a crypto based company showcased a cryptic commercial that left the audience in confusion.

Coinbase spent nearly $14 million on its QR code Super Bowl commercial — and it's paying off. They made one of the most confusing Super Bowl commercials of 2022 and, perhaps, all time. The main idea behind this commercial was to put across the idea that a great advertisement does not require high budgets or celebrity appearances, all it needs is a good idea.
