Memes have become a form of communication amongst today's youth, and they influence the way we perceive and interact with brands.
Meme Marketing is the use of memes to promote your brand narrative. Brands with a higher rate of meme marketing tend to receive positive feedback as well as a greater chance of going viral.
The brand does not always have to come up with humorous content and set a trend, they can simply hop onto the bandwagon of the trending topics and integrate their brand with the same. (As can be seen with the McDonalds tweet, as well as with Ryan Reynolds’ Aviation Gin Brand)
Elon Musk has been involved in a lot of meme marketing for his brands Tesla and SpaceX, and has made a name for himself.
When done correctly, meme marketing can be very successful. It goes past gag-inducing branded content and shares something of value to the audience. Memes work for brands because they're designed specifically for social platforms and provide value through entertainment.
