Idea #101 - Where Did Vincent Van Gogh?
“It is good to love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and what is done in love is done well.” - Vincent van Gogh
What do you think about Vincent van Gogh’s masterpiece, The Starry Night? Brilliant? Mesmerising? Surreal? Van Gogh himself, on the other hand, wrote - “Once again I let myself go reaching for stars that are too big - a new failure - and I have had enough of it,” referring to the piece of art. Today, worth over 100 million USD, The Starry Night was but belittling to her father back in 1889.
Today we learned a little about the Tortured Life of Vincent van Gogh, one of the greatest artists to have ever lived - from the story behind his missing ear to the eerie resemblance of (arguably) his last painting, Wheatfield with Crows, to the very spot where he shot himself (or so believed by many), several facets of his life were highlighted, which helped us understand better the genius behind his art.
Vincent van Gogh, although a deeply disturbed and frenzied artist, poured his heart on the canvas. This really makes us ask the age-old question once again - is a mental disorder what it takes to be a genius?
